Maciel began as an intern with VARN in April of 2016 and was hired on full time in July of 2016. She has a passion for helping women and children. In her free time, she enjoys doing yoga, spending time with family, and traveling. She answered a few questions for us.
What is your role at VARN?
I am a legal assistant and an administrative assistant. I work with the Managing Attorney on her Pro Bono and DVVAP cases and help the Executive Director with various administrative tasks.
Before working at VARN, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I was a doula in Little Rock, Arkansas for two years. I taught birthing classes, prenatal yoga, and helped deliver over 30 babies in that time.
How do you balance your career at VARN and family?
Coffee. So much coffee. I also have a really strong support system of family and friends.
Best vacation you’ve been to?
New Orleans in the fall. The weather was perfect, the food was amazing, and there is such an energy to the city. I cannot wait to go back!
Do you have a favorite quote? What is it?
I have a few but one that comes to mind is something I heard on a podcast this week. “Challenge is the grindstone by which you sharpen the sword of your spirit.”
Do you have an office nickname? What is it?
I have several but the one that seems to stick is Mace Face.
